Dates have been set for a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) into the death of Scottish boxer Mike Towell.

The 25-year-old, known as Iron Mike Towell, died in hospital the day after he was removed from the ring at the end of a fifth-round loss to Dale Evans in Glasgow in September 2016.

The young father, from Dundee, was diagnosed with severe bleeding and swelling to his brain but survived for 12 hours after being removed from life support.

The Crown Office had previously stated an FAI would be held and dates have now been set at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A prelimary hearing will take place on September 26 with the inquiry due to begin on November 5.

A court notice stated the inquiry is mandatory as the death was “the result of an accident which occurred in Scotland and while said Michael Towell was acting in the course of his employment or occupation”.

Two weeks in November and a week in December have been set aside for the FAI.
