‘Tis the season to be jolly in Brockmoor as residents move into new council properties just in time for Christmas!

The new council properties on Orchard Street in Brockmoor have recently been completed by Dudley Council, working in partnership with affordable house builder Lovell. The homes will be added to the council’s housing stock and include two, three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom bungalows. Of the 27 new properties, 20 are now completed with a further seven due for completion after Christmas.

One of the first new tenants who collected her keys yesterday (Thursday) was Beryl Batham. Beryl is no stranger to Orchard Street having lived there for 39 years and this will be her third house on the street! Beryl originally lived in one of the older houses that was demolished to make way for the new developments. She then moved over the road whilst the redevelopment took place. Following a knee replacement operation last year, Beryl needed to move from her two-storey home to a bungalow. Beryl said:

“I am so pleased to get the keys to my new home in time for Christmas. Orchard Street has been my home for so long and I feel so lucky to be able to stay here. I was so happy when I walked inside that I cried. It is going to make my life so much easier and I can stay near all my friends and neighbours.”

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for housing, added;

“We are delighted with the quality and finish of the new homes in Orchard Street. Our partnership with Lovell has produced great quality housing that most importantly of all will improve quality of life for the new residents.  We are really proud that as a council our current schemes are providing nearly 100 new and much-needed affordable homes across the Dudley Borough.”
