Carers are urged to come along to special events taking place across the borough to mark this year’s national Carers Week 2011.

This year’s week runs from June 13 to 19 and to mark the occasion in Dudley, libraries and other venues will be hosting a series of events throughout the week. Carers will be able to find out about the support available through Dudley Carers’ Forum and how they can look for care and support services online via the Dudley Community Information Directory at Dudley Library on June 14, Wordsley Library on June 15 and Halesowen Library on June 16 from 10am to 2pm.

At Stourbridge Library on June 14 from 10am to 12noon people will be able to stop by and meet members of Dudley carers’ writing group. They will be sharing their new anthology ‘Childhood Memories’, which includes stories submitted by carers across the borough.

A special information event for carers of children with disabilities or health conditions will be held at Stourbridge family centre on June 14 from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Carers are also urged to join other carers in an Age UK three to four mile walk, which will be led by Dudley Council’s carers’ co-ordinator across Baggeridge Country Park on June 18 from 1.30pm. Councillor Lesley Faulkner, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “Carers are an incredibly valuable part of our community. The events organised throughout the week are designed to support carers to find out more about what help and advice is available to them and also encourage carers to come together and share their own experience of caring with people in a similar position.”

Other groups and organisations will also be arranging events. For full details of all the events taking place across the borough to mark carers week contact Dudley Council’s carers’ co-ordinator on 01384 818723 or email carers.network@dudley.gov.uk
