BROTHERS Adam and Jonathan Kitto are threatening to cycle a groove into the road next month when they attempt a daunting challenge known as 'Everesting'.

They plan to pedal up and down a hill outside Clent on October 5 to help raise money for the Acorns Children's Hospice.

Their task involves cycling along Vine Lane and part of St Kenelm's Pass 86 times to compete a climb equivalent to the size of Mount Everest.

Elder brother Adam, aged 29 and from Withymoor, admitted: "We reckon it should take around 16 hours to cover over 200 miles. We've done the maths and that should work out to equal 8,848 vertical metres."

But the brothers, who are no novices when it comes to cycling, are under no illusions of the task ahead.

Adam added: "We've already told some of our sponsors that we might not complete the climb. We have allowed 24 hours to complete the feat, but we realise we might not succeed. "We've asked people to remember they are sponsoring an attempt rather than a completion."

The pair, however, are no slouches in the saddle.

Adam, a supermarket assistant store manager, has a background in mountain biking; while 24-year-old marketing manager Jonathan, recently competed in an Ironman Triathlon.

Adam said: "I got the idea while I was marshalling at the Ironman. I was looking to do something for charity and one of the other marshals had only just done an Everesting event quite recently. It's an idea that has come over from the USA and is catching on here.

"We've not set ourselves any targets - we just want to try and raise as much money as possible."
