THOUSANDS of pounds is up for grabs in Wychavon for groups thinking of running inspirational sports or physical activity projects next year.

Wychavon District Council has announced a number of funding opportunities as it has a combined total of £85,000 from three funding pots for projects in the area that can provide a minimum of six weeks’ activity.

There is £70,000 available through Get Wychavon Active, which focuses on getting adults, primarily 25 years of age or older, more active more often.

Sports organisations, leisure providers, some private providers and local businesses can apply for a share of this money, available thanks to the National Lottery.

A further £10,000 via National Lottery funding is on offer through an initiative called Sportivate.

This is targeted at semi-sporty teenagers and young adults aged between the ages of 14 and 25. Funding is open to all sports organisations and leisure providers and some private providers but projects must run between April 2015 and April 2016.

Finally £5,000 is available for clubs at school, which is aimed at sports clubs providing coaching sessions linking directly with a local school, that target children aged 7 to 16 and will be completed before April next year.

Mark Williams, sports development officer at Wychavon, said: “We recognise the valuable contribution that sporting activities can bring to the health and wellbeing of a community.

"With help from National Lottery funding we hope to create new and exciting projects across the district that will inspire our residents to get moving more in 2015."
