A MEMORIAL bench has been placed in a Kidderminster primary school in memory of a grandad of two pupils.

Thomas McGarrie passed away last year, and his family thought it was a touching tribute to donate a bench to Comberton Primary School, in Borrington Road, for pupils, teachers and parents to use.

Lyssa Hillhouse, Mr McGarrie’s daughter, said: “We wanted to do something at the school and we thought it would be a nice idea to have a bench and a plaque to remember my Dad.

“It’s nice for the children, teachers and parents to use it.

“My sister, Lynne, my brother, John and myself all attended that school, and now my son, Kenzie, and my nephew, Jamie, attend the school, so it means a lot to us to do this in Dad’s memory, as he loved sitting in the garden and his grandchildren.”

The school has created an area at the front of their Year Six mobile, where the bench is now sited.

Susan Childs, acting head teacher at the school, said: “The bench is a fitting tribute to a much loved granddad and is already being used by children and parents.

“We would like to thank the family for their generosity.”
