ROAD-users could experience some disruptions as Redditch Borough Council carries out vital tree-felling work at a well-used traffic island.

Officers are being forced to remove poplar trees which currently adorn the Warwick Highways Island at the junction of Alders and Claybrook Drives.

Due to the short lifespan of Poplars, the trees have to be removed because they are posing a safety risk to passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Landscape and countryside officer Gavin Boyes said: “The tree stock on the island is very poor and they are deteriorating due to both their age and because there are so many of them, they are competing for resources vital to their healthy growth.

“This deterioration creates a risk of falling debris so we are removing them all with a view to replanting the area in the Autumn with a mix of more sustainable trees.”

So the work can take place there will be traffic management measure in place at the island.

Mr Gavin added: “We are sorry for the inconvenience which of course we will keep to a minimum. Please bear with us.”

The work is expected to take about two weeks and will begin on March 16.
