HALESOWEN Town players and supporters will be fighting tooth and nail to try and raise money for goalkeeper Daniel Platt.

The Yeltz shotstopper suffered an horrendous injury in a pre-season friendly against Tividale when Platt parted company with three of his front teeth.

Platt clashed heads with Tividale striker Joel Ayetti as both players went up for the ball.

Ayetti was knocked unconscious and had to be taken to Russells Hall Hospital while Platt sustained a fractured upper jaw bone, causing the teeth to fall out.

Platt admitted: "It wasn't the nicest thing to happen. The Tividale goalkeeper made a long clearence and the ball bounced up outside the area.

"I came out to head the ball clear and their player headed me in the face.”

The match had to be abandoned with 15 minutes still remaining.

But Platt has since been left counting the cost of his painful collision.

Halesowen Town's sports injury insurance doesn't cover dental work, so Platt was left with a bill of close on £6,500 for reconstruction work.

The Professional Footballers Association (PFA) have stepped in and offered to pay £3,000 of the fee, leaving Platt to raise the rest.

Platt said: "One of the Halesowen players Jay Denny told me I shouldn't have to pay out of my own pocket and that the club should help."

Now players and supporters are rallying around and getting their teeth in raising money for Platt to help pay the fees.

They plan to stage a mass waxing after the game against Whitby Town on October 3, while other donations have been coming in through a just giving page.

Kidderminster based Platt, who is 23, used to be a full time professional with Crewe Alexandra. He has also featured for Telford United, Evesham Town and Oxford City.

Platt added: " The PFA have been great and I can't speak highly enough of them. I want to thank everyone one else who have stepped in to help.

"I've got some temporary teeth in at the moment but I shall be having an operation in four weeks time. Then I will have to wait another six months for the jaw bone to graft together before the crowns can be put in."
