A WORCESTERSHIRE firm of solicitors has recruited a new young legal eagle for its Bromsgrove office.

The appointment of Dan Binnion at Thomas Horton, in The Strand, Bromsgrove, brings the total number of aspiring young solicitors taken on by the firm for work experience in the last year to seven.

Thomas Horton, which also has offices in Barnt Green, Redditch and Worcester, prides itself on "bucking the trend" of youth unemployment nationally by creating jobs for the future generation of solicitors.

The most recent recruit is Mr Binnion, aged 23, who has joined the conveyancing team as a paralegal.

“Thomas Horton has given me the opportunity to learn the ropes and develop my own personal skills, helping me progress further in this sector," he said.

"The position has presented opportunities and I believe it will open many doors for my future.”

He is following in the footsteps of Gemma Elliott, who joined the firm - which employs a total of 38 people at its Bromsgrove base - as an office junior after leaving college in 2006 and is now a chartered legal executive in the probate department.

She said: “After leaving college, finding a job was important to me. Thomas Horton recognised I had potential and has continued to invest in me, helping me to nurture my skills.

"During my eight years with the firm, I have been given guidance and support to grow and develop further in my career.”

Two other recruits who joined on a temporary basis over the last 12 months have now gone on to higher education.

Richard Hull, managing partner at the firm, said: “Helping young people into work is an important part of our remit.

"It is not just about helping them to develop their career, development of core skills and standards is also vital.

“We recognise that the county has an array of excellent talent, with young people possessing an extensive range of skills and abilities regardless of their educational background.

"We value young people and investing in them at an early age benefits the community as a whole, enabling Worcestershire to prosper.”
