PEOPLE can have their say on plans to merge a split-site Cotswold school on to one site.

The school of St James' and Ebrington C of E Primary is currently based across two sites — one in Ebrington and one almost four miles away in Chipping Campden.

If given the go-ahead, new proposals will see both sites merged in to one on the Chipping Campden site by September 2016.

In a letter addressed to staff, parents, carers and stakeholders, the governors said: "We appreciate this proposal represents considerable change, but please be assured that the governors and the diocese have given much strategic thought and careful consideration prior to reaching this stage of the process."

People are invited to give their views at a drop-in session on Wednesday, October 14 at St James' School or at a following session on Thursday, October 15 at Ebrington School, both between 2.30pm and 7pm.

The school offers 30 reception places each year and the two sites have a capacity of 210 pupils between them.

If the plans go ahead, the Chipping Campden site would be expanded to allow the same number of students and staff to be accommodated.

In a document explaining the plans, it says consolidating the school on to one site would bring a number of benefits, including a "greater stability in class structure and size, more effective and flexible use of staff skills and a more effective use of the school budget".

The document goes on to explain that the Chipping Campden site was chosen because the site at Ebrington is "too small to develop" and has limited facilities.

It says: "The site cannot be developed to provide an environment which meets the changing expectation of modern education. The site at St James' has sufficient space and the necessary work can be carried out safely and without major disruption to the children's education."

People have until October 26 to share their views before the plans are properly reviewed in November.
