A DARING Kidderminster woman will be flying high to help raise much-needed funds for her nephews’ scout group.

Karen Bishop will be leaping out of a plane on Saturday (October 10) for a sponsored parachute jump in support of Mid Severn Sea Scout Group, who are based on Lickhill Road in Stourport.

The group, which has around 100 cubs, scouts, beavers and brownies, needs to raise around £4,000 to pay for a refurbishment of their hut, including the replacement of their existing boiler.

And, after hearing about the plight of the group of which two of her nephews are members, 38-year-old Karen decided to take to the skies.

Last year, Karen did her first ever jump to raise money and awareness of pulmonary fibrosis in memory of her father David, who died as a result of the condition.

She said: “I’m very excited, although still a little terrified about it! Last year was nerve-wracking but I got such an unbelievable feeling from doing it that I wanted to have another go.

“The staff at the airfield were great and put me at ease. This year I’m doing it for the sea scouts and their refurbishment fund. They do so much for my nephews and all the other members so it is a wonderful to be able to help such a great cause.”

Karen’s sister Amanda Hilton is covering the cost of the dive to ensure all the funds raised go to the refurbishment fund.

Weather permitting, Karen will complete the sky dive at Redlands Airfield in Swindon and anyone wishing to support her can visit her fundraising page here.
