A spokesman from WMAS said: "The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found to be trapped underneath a piece of steel on arrival of crews.

"After initial assessment, work began to free the man with all emergency services working closely with each other.

"A crane from a nearby premises was used to stabilise the structure before the fire service was able to use hydraulic jacks to lift it enough for the man to be freed.

"He was treated by ambulance staff pelvic and abdomen injuries, immobilised and given pain relief before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further treatment."

Two fire engines from Kidderminster fire station and an ultra-heavy rescue pump from Droitwich fire station attended the scene.

Station commander, Adrian Thompson, said: "A significant amount of joint training has taken place between the fire service, ambulance and police and this incident demonstrated how effectively the emergency services worked together to quickly resolve this incident in a hazardous environment."
