A BUILDER who fell on a construction site in Worcester and suffered bruises to his head and two broken ribs is recovering well in hospital said a friend.

We reported how the builder, the site manager, fell inside a house under construction in Bath Road, Worcester, at around 2.56pm on Thursday.

A painstaking rescue operation involved him being lifted via a rigid stretcher out of a first floor window by specialist teams from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service before he was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where he remained overnight on Thursday.

One lane of Bath Road was coned off but the tailbacks quickly eased once the man had been removed and taken to hospital as an officer directed traffic.

The remained in hospital on Friday said his friend Gavin Hunt but hoped he could be discharged soon.

Mr Hunt, speaking to the Worcester News today (Friday), said: "Because he banged his head they wanted to keep him in overnight. They also wanted to do some observations today but he's fine in himself.

"It's a bit painful and he's got a headache. He tripped on a board in the attic. The distance was from his feet down to the floor. He was joking that the board they lifted him out on was quite hard.

"He doesn't remember much about the accident itself. He was unconscious for a time but when he left the site he was conscious.

"I would not expect him back at work for a while. It's just a question of getting him back from the hospital and letting him rest up a bit. He was still in the QE this afternoon."
