HISTORY lovers have been enjoying a trip back in time at Worcester's Commandery.

Despite the cold weather visitors have been flooding into the Sidbury-based museum to see hundreds of re-enactors from a number of different era's including Ancient Greeks, Viking Warriors, and the two World Wars.

The re-enactors have been wearing authentic period costumes, and can be discovered throughout the 12th century building.

Visitors have also been entertained by the military and vintage vehicles on display, the authentic 1940s pubs The Wheatsheaf, an Elizabethan surgeon display of surgical techniques, period dance displays, and Victorian prize fighters.

One of the visitors, Kate Pyke, from Worcester, said: "It is very, very good.

"The re-enactors are really impressive. The best thing I've seen is the shooting display."

Brian Bullock, from Worcester Re-enactors, said: "The event has gone really well - it is one of the biggest we do locally.

"The idea of it is to bring more than 2,000 years of history to life - it is better than reading it from a book.

"It is especially good for the kids. They are sometimes more enthusiastic than parents, and are not afraid to ask us questions.

"They will go back to the teachers and tell them what they have learned."

Sarah Bourne, from The Commandery, added: "It has been brilliant - everywhere you go there are crowds of people.

"There are also hundreds of new visitors from Worcester, who have made a special visit to us for this event."

The event helped launch the Love Worcester Festival - a week of events celebrating the city's history, culture and architecture, that has been organised across the city.
