TALENTED youngsters from Dodderhill School in Droitwich Spa hit the high notes in a spectacular concert to celebrate the school’s 70th anniversary.

The event took place on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22 at the Elgar Hall in Birmingham.

Guest presenter Joanne Malin, journalist and presenter of BBC Midlands Today compered the event.

The theme for the evening was past, present and future and celebrated the founding of sister school, Whitford Hall in the academic year starting September 1945.

Musical, theatrical and dance performances were performed to mark milestones in history during this period and included a rendition of Zadok Priest from the Queen's coronation, readings about the end of the war, a poem titled Why Wear A Poppy and a performance of an anthem titled We Will Remember Them composed by the school’s Head of Music, Caroline Vinson.

The girls performed poetry and drama based on current school themes, including Daisy Pulls It Off, An Alien Ate My Homework and Picking Teams.

A contemporary dance group performed to the song Sky Scraper and a classical duo of girls danced to Bridge Over Troubled Water.

There was also a video showing the school through the eyes of the present pupils.

The show concluded with a performance of Thank You For The Music by the Alumni Choir, comprised of girls from all years past and conducted by retired Head of Music, Mr Brooks.

Headmistress of Dodderhill School, Cate Mawston, said: "The staff and students worked tirelessly in preparation and we really did celebrate the school’s 70th anniversary in style.

"We’re so proud of the girls for their fantastic achievement, well done to everyone involved."
