A BEWDLEY teenager is set to climb a Moroccan mountain to raise funds for a cancer ward at a Birmingham hospital.

Isobel Smith, 17, along with students from her public services course at Stourbridge College, have travelled to Morocco this week and will climb 4,167 metre Mount Toubkal, to raise money for ward 19 at the Heartlands Hospital.

Paul Smith, Isobel’s father, said: “She flew out to Morocco on Tuesday (June 28).

“It was part of her public services course and her class group had the opportunity to go to Morocco to climb this mountain and raise money for the cancer ward at Heartlands Hospital.

“Personally, I couldn’t get over how big the mountain is. It is terrific what she is doing – I am very proud.

“She was given a six-week training programme – there was lots of walking, cycling and walking with a backpack. We live in Bewdley near the river, so she has been walking around there.

“She has raised £300 so far. Isobel has been very excited and was looking forward to it.

“It only seems like yesterday she was climbing on the shed roof and now she is climbing this big mountain!”
