A WOMAN was attacked by a man who grabbed her bag and pushed her against a fence.

The attack took place near to St John's Church and the junction with Malvern Road around 5.45pm on Friday, July 22.

The attacker, who is thought to be known to the victim, is said to have snatched the bag away from the woman, causing the strap to rip.

He then pushed her against a fence and a struggle ensued, during which her dress ripped.

The man stopped when a passerby intervened and the victim was then taken home by a member of the public.

The attacker then arrived at her home address but left before the police arrived.

A 29-year-old man from Worcester has since been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail until Thursday, August 18.

Officers are now appealing to the 'Good Samaritan' drivers who stopped to help the woman following the assault.

Investigating officer, PC Simon Johnson, said: "I understand that a number of motorists stopped to help the victim, thank you for your kind actions.

"If you were one of these people, or witnessed the incident please get in touch via 101. Any information that you can provide could be important to our investigation."
