A CYCLIST has thanked the "good samaritans" who came to his aid after he was knocked off his bike in Evesham.

Rob Lewis, from Wickhamford, fell into the road after crashing into a car at the roundabout near Merstow Green, shortly before 10.30pm on Tuesday, August 16.

Passers by rushed to the aid of the 44-year-old, who suffered cracked ribs and damage to his foot, and called the emergency services.

A woman covered Mr Lewis with her coat to keep him warm, while another helped him get into the recovery position before the ambulance arrived.

Mr Lewis, who is a company director, said: "I was pretty well lit up and followed all the guidelines for a cyclist. She just didn't see me pull out. I just smashed into the side of her car which catapulted me onto the floor.

"The very kind people that came, they made me lie on the floor, put me in the recovery position, one kind lady put her coat over me. Motorists pulled alongside saying: 'Do you need me to phone the ambulance?

"It just gives you faith in humanity that there are kind people out there."

Mr Lewis said he went to hospital for x-rays, which showed he had luckily not suffered any broken bones.

The company director says he now has difficulty walking and has been off work since the incident, but hopes to return next week.

He continued: "I just wanted to say I really appreciated all the help. They were like good samaritans but they didn't want to give any details.

"They just made sure I was okay and once they knew I was okay, they left. Nobody was there to be a hero. It is just nice to know that there is really helpful people out there when you need help."
