A PENSIONER was assaulted with his own walking stick while lying in bed during a robbery in Catshill this week.

The 78-year-old man was sleeping in his bed when two unknown males entered the premises through an unlocked front door and approached him.

They threatened him with a metal bar and his own walking stick and then assaulted him with the walking stick after demanding money.

Cash and bank cards were stolen during the incident, which occurred at a property on Bourne Avenue between 2.40am and 2.50am on Monday, December 5.

The attack left the pensioner with shoulder pain and bruising.

West Mercia Police are investigating the incident and have increased patrols in the area.

Inspector Sarah Corteen of Bromsgrove North and Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "The man was hit to the shoulder causing pain and a large bruise.

"Nobody has been arrested and we are still carrying out enquiries.

"The local police have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area.

"This incident is not a regular occurrence but if you do have any information that can help enquiries can you please call police on 101 quoting 0038s of December 5."
