POLICE have sealed off a small section of the graveyard in St James’s Church in Wollaston this morning (Monday, March 27) after an “irregular burial” was discovered.
Officers made the decision to close off the small area following reports of some of the earth being “disturbed” in the cemetery grounds.
A spokesman for the church said human remains were found being buried in the churchyard but police had found "nothing untoward".
The Archdeacon of Dudley, Nikki Groarke, said: “An irregular burial was discovered in St James’s churchyard and the police were contacted to ensure nothing untoward had happened.
“The remains have now been exhumed so a proper burial can take place.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “Following investigations, officers are satisfied that no criminal offences have taken place.”
