SUPPORT for a Hereford western bypass has come from leaders of the Welsh Government who have highlighted the strategic benefits the infrastructure would bring.

In a letter to Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Kirsty Williams, the Welsh Government's cabinet secretary for economy and infrastructure, Ken Skates, said he strongly supports the need for a Hereford bypass.

He wrote: "We support the proposed investment in the Hereford (Western) Bypass and recognise the benefits it will bring to travel between mid-Wales and the Midlands, as well as transport between North and South Wales.”

Councillor Price, cabinet member infrastructure said he was 'delighted' to receive such strong support for a Hereford bypass from the Welsh Government.

He said: "The bypass is essential for the growth of our city and it is great that the Welsh Government also recognises the importance of the scheme to improve connections to the road network in South Wales and improve links to and from destinations in the West Midlands and also to the North West.

"Locally, the bypass will benefit those living, working and visiting Hereford by improving journey reliability, easing congestion and opening up housing and employment land.”

The Hereford Bypass forms part of the Hereford Transport Package which aims to address the transport problems in the city.

A public consultation on this and the Hereford Area Plan starts on April 4 and runs until May 22.

From April 4 there will be a three-day exhibition at the Courtyard, which will run from 11am to 7pm daily.
