REDDITCH Borough Council has lowered its flag at the Town Hall at half-mast as a mark of respect, following two terror attacks in Spain.

A rampaging van driver left 13 people dead and more than 100 wounded in Barcelona yesterday (August 17) after driving through the popular Las Ramblas district.

The country was rocked by a second attack hours later in the seaside town of Cambrils, when five terrorists wearing suicide belts rammed civilians with a car before being shot dead by police.

Seven people, including a police officer, were injured during the incident in Cambrils.

Council leader councillor Bill Hartnett said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of these two terror attacks."

In the absence of the the mayor of Redditch, Councillor Jenny Wheeler, who is on holiday, deputy mayor Nina Wood-Ford and Cllr Hartnett will also be writing to the mayors of Barcelona and Cambrils expressing their sympathy.
