A RESIDENT has criticised university students for not showing 'consideration and respect' after being woken by their loud late-night antics.

Robin Roething, 53, says students shout loudly late at night near to his Infirmary Walk home, close to the the University of Worcester’s city campus.

He says that there is a tunnel by his home which echoes, as students head home from freshers week nights out.

He said: "It is the same as last year, students are waking me up on their way home.

"It is not quite as loud as Freshers week last year but it is still waking me up. It might be an old cliche but I wish they would show a bit of consideration and respect for other people.

"I am not against people having fun, and I realise this is the first time away from home for them but I don't think we should have to put up with it.

"The person I spoke to at the university said that some people go on holiday during freshers and I did think about doing so.

"I complained about it last year and I did see an improvement after. One of the main issues is that they go to Tramps on a Monday night.

"I was woken three times this morning (Tuesday) between about half one and quarter to three, they wouldn't like it if I went to their accommodation and woke them up.

"I was told I should shut my window, but I don't see why I should have to when it is warm."

A University of Worcester spokesman said: "The University, working closely with the Students’ Union, actively encourages all students to behave in a sensible and courteous manner.

"We run a number of campaigns at the start of the new academic year to help new students settle in to life away from home for the first time, and remind returning students to ensure they act in a neighbourly and considerate way.

"It must be noted that Infirmary Walk is one of the main thoroughfares through the city and it is therefore not only students passing through this street.

"If residents have genuine concerns about the behaviour of students, we would ask them to report these to us as soon as possible so that we can work with them to resolve any problems swiftly. Residents who wish to report a problem can call 01905 855000."
