A THIEF found guilty of stealing from a vulnerable, disabled pensioner was warned he is likely to go to jail.

Isaac Lee had his case adjourned after his vulnerable victim struggled to Worcester Crown Court on Friday to watch him sentenced.

Lee, aged 41, of Offerton Lane, Warndon, Worcester, has already been found guilty of theft following his trial at Worcester Magistrates Court on September 22.

Victim Jean Preece was at court, supported by a police officer. The case could not go ahead because Lee’s barrister, Jason Aris, applied for a pre-sentence report.

Mrs Preece, aged 78, also gave evidence in the trial at the lower court following the theft of cash from her home in Tolladine Road, Worcester on November 15 last year.

Jason Aris, defending, said Lee had been out of trouble for the last four years.

He said: “Custody will be at the forefront of the court’s mind but I would like the opportunity to try and argue that the court should withdraw from that approach.”

Mr Aris explained that Lee had an alcohol problem but had the insight to self-refer to Swanswell.

Recorder Allan Dooley said: “I’m going along with your application with some reluctance. It does seem to me it passes the custody threshold. A sentence of imprisonment is well justified. That is likely to be the result in your case. The length of that period may be influenced by a report as might other factors.

"I say this because Mrs Preece is in court today. This is not letting you (Lee) off in any way. You face the full rigour of the law when you come back to court."

The sentencing hearing is due to take place at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, November 10.

Lee must have no contact with Mrs Preece and must not go within 100 metres of her home.

He must co-operate with probation in the preparation of the pre-sentence report.
