A MUSIC student from Bromsgrove School has been appointed as St David's Cathedral's new organ scholar.
Emily Evans was selected by the dean and chapter of St David's Cathedral to take part in the organ scholarship, which will see Emily playing a key role in the cathedral's services and choir performances.
The 17-year-old said: "I was over the moon when I received the news.
"I hope to gain an organ scholarship when I go to university, alongside reading for a degree in music, hopefully at Oxbridge, after which I wish to pursue playing the organ as my career."
Emily has spent the last few months as a chorister at Worcester Cathedral, while studying the organ with the cathedral's assistant director of music Christopher Allsop.
Bromsgrove School's director of music James McKelvey said: "We are absolutely delighted for Emily to have been selected for this great honour.
"She is already a very accomplished musician, and having only recently taken to the organ so naturally, this will really launch her musical future."
St David's Cathedral is thought to be built on the site of the monastery founded in the sixth century by David, the patron saint of Wales. Her Majesty the Queen is a canon of the cathedral chapter.
