NEARLY 2,000 people in Worcestershire have signed a petition calling for a bank holiday if England wins the World Cup.

The appeal on the Parliament website said a bank holiday is needed because if England are victorious then Monday will “not be pleasant” for fans.

And just a few hours before England's semi-final clash with Croatia, more than 225,000 had signed the petition - passing the threshold to be debated in the House of Commons.

England fanatics across the county have backed the call, with 372 people from Bromsgrove signing the petition, 446 from Redditch, 344 from Wyre Forest, 324 from Worcester 324, 200 from West Worcestershire, and 283 from Mid Worcestershire.

Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate.
