DEDICATED Kidderminster slimmers took on a daring challenge to help raise hundreds for Cancer Research UK.

The kind-hearted group of eight, who attend Puxton Lane Slimming World classes run by consultant Claire Wier, completed the Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5k at Worcester Racecourse on July 14.

And their efforts saw them collect an impressive £700 for the charity. As well as supporting the charity, members wanted to raise awareness of the face that keeping a healthy weight can reduce the risk of developing 13 types of cancer.

Claire said: “I’m so proud of all of my members, who set themselves the challenge of completing the event and absolutely smashed it.

“At Slimming World, we help our members find enjoyable ways of getting more active and encourage them to increase their activity levels step-by-step, until it becomes part of their daily routine.

“In our group we all support each other to live a healthier and more active lifestyle. It’s amazing to see just how much of a difference their weight loss has made.

“Getting active doesn’t have to be joining the gym or running marathons. It can be walking the kids to school, doing the gardening, hitting the dancefloor - anything that raises the heart rate a little counts under our Body Magic activity programme.

“I’m sure my members will inspire more people to get active and improve their health, while also raising awareness of the links between obesity and cancer.

“The money raised will go towards an amazing cause – one my members feel very passionate about – helping to support Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all cancers.”
