THE NUMBER of people out of work across the district of Wychavon has increased by 22 per cent.
Figures released yesterday (Tuesday) show 805 people claiming benefits, 145 more than same month last year.
The number of 18-24 year olds claiming benefits has also increased to 160, a 28 per cent growth.
However, compared to 2010 unemployment is down 54 per cent in all claimants and reduced by 63 percent in the 18-24 age bracket.
Mandy Bateman of Jobcentre Plus said: "We are working closely with Waitrose. We are carrying out pre-employment training with guaranteed interviews with Waitrose. Obviously, a lot of our customers are to get into these jobs. We are also working with Rooftops with an event in Broadway on August 4."
