A WOMAN who committed an offence of grievous bodily harm against an elderly man has breached her suspended sentence.

Claire Bamford appeared at Worcester Crown on Wednesday via videolink from HMP Eastwood Park.

The 45-year-old admitted criminal damage, placing her in breach of the suspended sentence order imposed for inflicting grievous bodily harm (section 20) against an elderly man. She admitted the offence during a hearing at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on July 18.

Christopher Lester said there was a joint application between prosecution and defence to adjourn sentence for seven days so Bamford could appear alongside her co-accused, named in court as Robert Atkin.

Simon Cooper, for Bamford, said: “She is a lady with a raft of difficulties, mental health issues and alcohol dependency.”

He described the criminal damage as ‘low level’. He made a bail application which was refused by judge Robert Juckes QC who remanded her in custody. The judge also requested details of the original offence for which the suspended sentence was imposed.

Mr Lester told him it was an attack on an elderly gentlemen by the two of them. Both pleaded guilty to section 20 grievous bodily harm.

The original sentence for the grievous bodily harm was imposed by judge Jim Tindal on May 15 this year. Judge Juckes ordered that the case must be heard by judge Tindal.

The case will next be heard on August 22.
