FREEZING temperatures and the possibility of snow are on the way, with the council reminding people to take extra care at home, at work and outside.

Cllr Stephen Hirst, cabinet member for health and community safety said: "The Met Office is predicting a significant cold spell over the next week or so, and we are drawing attention to a package of information we have assembled to help people cope with the conditions.

"This covers a range of useful information including: school closures; arrangements for disruptions to waste collections; keeping warm and well; reporting potholes; snow clearing; and coping with flooding.

"We would also appreciate it if people could check on older neighbours and relatives during cold spells. Stopping by to say ‘hello’ can make a lot of difference when it is not so easy to remain fit and well. Good neighbours are worth their weight in gold."
