Students from the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and Portfolio course at Hereford College of Arts (HCA) are busy preparing to install a new pop up exhibition at De Koffie Pot which will run on Thursday and Friday, December 14 and 15.

The exhibition, entitled All for Art - Art For All will show work by 110 students from this renowned course. Inspired by a live project brief called Take 3, Give 1, each student was asked to participate in selecting three words at random from a lucky dip. Students then responded to these words to make a single piece of art work for this public exhibition.

Take 3, Give ’ is a challenging project for the students because, although they still have their normal free rein across the fantastic workshops and facilities at HCA during the project, the theme of their work is determined by chance. The project is as much about responding to a brief and exploring concepts, as it is about developing creativity and working with materials and process.

Xaviere Hughes, curriculum leader for FE Art & Design says: “As always, the staff team and I are excited to see the diverse and personal ways in which our students engage with the creative process. Our students frequently work with external agencies to very tight deadlines and this fun pop up exhibition is no exception – with only a two week turnaround to produce the work. The show is a great celebration of the students’ originality and resourcefulness and we are delighted to share it with the public at De Koffie Pot.”

Abigail Appleton, principal at HCA, said, “I am constantly impressed by how creative our students are, both at college and university level. I am looking forward to this exhibition, which is a wonderful demonstration of how the students are encouraged to explore their creativity.”

The pop up exhibition will be open to the public at De Koffie Pot on Thursday and Friday, December 14 and 15. At the close of the exhibition on Friday, the students will also be involved in a surprise finale for the project.
