A DAUGHTER is appealing for the return of her late father's rings which were stolen from her mother's home.

Burglars broke into Megan Preece's home in a north Herefordshire village while she was staying with her daughter, Debbie, in South Wales for five days.

She returned on April 6 and discovered burglars had taken Megan's jewellery and her late husband Ian's gold rings.

Debbie said: ""We took her back and someone had broken into her home and took some items which were very precious. They took my father's rings - some of them were quite distinctive."

It only added to the family's troubles after a very difficult 20 months.

Debbie was due to get married to Phillip Williams in January 2017 but was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2016, before undergoing a double mastectomy in October 2016. She also had six months of chemotherapy treatment.

In April of 2017 her father, Ian, fell and broke his pelvic bone and her mother, who was born with disabilities, then suffered a stroke. This left her needing further care.

Ian then died last November, aged 79, of a heart attack.

Debbie, 52, said: "They had been together 56 years. Never had a day apart and never had a day without him. With this happening I just couldn't believe it."

The burglars also stole £2,000 in cash which her mother had been saving for Debbie's wedding which has been rearranged for this September.

A gold signet ring was taken which has her mum and dad's initials on which are M and I. A gold sovereign ring was also stolen.

Debbie said: "The signet ring is particularly sentimental as mum gave it to my dad when they got married. If they were both sold on together someone might recognise them.

"It's just scary that they have targeted a little old lady like that in a village."

Megan, 78, said she does not care about her own jewellery but would desperately like to see her husband's rings returned.

Police said some unknown items of army memorabilia were also taken. Police are appealing for any information relating to the burglary. If you have any details call 101 and quote reference number 0717S 060418.
