THERE are activities to mark 150 years of a railway that has played an important part in the lives of people living in south Shropshire.

It was in 1868 that the Heart of Wales railway opened.

At the time rail travel was at its peak and lines were opening up all over the country.

Many were closed in the 1960s and 70s although some like the core of the line through south Shropshire survived.

Art Cafe Artists' have been joining in with the celebrations marking 150 years of The Heart of Wales railway line over the weekend and special events will be staged over the weekend.

Craven Arms is a major junction and Art Cafe Artists' are pleased to include some work inspired by this railway line as part of their Exhibition at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms.

The Heart of Wales line runs through 'areas of outstanding natural beauty' and includes some of the finest scenery in England and Wales. www.heart-of-wales.co uk
