A SHOPPING centre is among the large number of sponsors supporting an exciting public art event – set to be the biggest ever seen in Worcester.

The Valley, Evesham is sponsoring both a large and small giraffe sculpture in the Worcester Stands Tall art trail.

For 10 weeks in summer 2018, the city will spring to life as Worcester Stands Tall brings a trail of beautifully decorated giraffe sculptures to its streets – before they are auctioned to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

The interactive project will bring a host of benefits to the county, from boosting the tourist economy to promoting local businesses – all while raising funds for charity.

Phil Maclean, retail marketing manager at The Valley, said: “Worcester Stands Tall is a win-win initiative.

“We get to contribute to such a deserving charity in St Richard’s Hospice and commercially we will benefit from being part of an innovative, mass participation and inclusive event that is set to attract regional and national visitors to the area.

“We just can't wait for summer 2018 to start."

The Valley, Evesham, is choosing to donate its giraffe calf sculpture to the Vale of Evesham School.

Students will help decorate the sculpture which will eventually be displayed alongside others decorated by school pupils in Crowngate Shopping Centre during the trail.

Sara Matthews, project manager for Worcester Stands Tall, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Valley, Evesham on board with Worcester Stands Tall.

“Not only will the art trail help raise funds for St Richard’s, but it will encourage tourism across the county – making a great contribution to the economic, cultural and social life of the area.”

Worcester Stands Tall is a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s Hospice.

The money raised by the trail will support St Richard’s free, specialist care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses, their families and bereaved people across Worcestershire.
