A STOURPORT care home resident celebrated a landmark birthday this week surrounded by her family and friends.
Mary Jane Bridge, who is better known as Jenny, received her card from The Queen in recognition of her 100th birthday.
Lancashire born Jenny, who now resides at Ravenhurt Residential Care Home, said having her family and seeing them have children of their own was what she had enjoyed most about her life.
The grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of eight added: “I don’t feel 100, I still feel like I’m in my 80s.
“I’ve led a normal active life, and taken each day as it comes.”
Jenny met her first husband Edward while working at a Lancashire cotton mill when she was 20 and they had three daughters Sheila, Glenys and Jennifer.
In later life, Jenny found a second love – her childhood sweetheart, Eric Bridge. Reuniting after many years, she said: “It was fate that we met again.”
They married and had a son David. After Eric’s death, Jenny moved to Worcestershire to be nearer her daughters.
Daughter Jennifer said: “Mum has always been very sociable and enjoys a good laugh! She has always moved with the times.
“Her grandchildren just love her and have so much fun with her.”
Activities leader at the home Carla Siwicki added: “We are so proud to be able to celebrate this milestone with Jenny and her family at Ravenhurst – what an amazing achievement.”
