ENTRIES are being sought from Worcestershire for the Oscars of the manufacturing industry.

The BERR Manufacturing Advisory Service is partnering with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for the Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2009 and is urging county companies to take part in the high profile competition.

MX is the only UK awards scheme of its kind that offers an elite panel of industry experts giving free, impartial advice in a benchmarking report that has been valued at up to £20,000.

The report will offer a “top tips” service to firms with invaluable advice on how to improve performance, taking size, industry and resources into consideration.

MAS-WM chief executive David Wright said: “We are actively encouraging as many companies from Worcestershire to enter these awards.

“By entering MX, they will receive a benchmarking report compiled by leading manufacturing experts, as well as industry and peer-recognised kudos if they go on to win an award at the ceremony in June.

“The processes and the self-reflexive journey that each company goes through to get to the big night is extraordinary and one that will stand them in good stead for the future.

“We are proud to sponsor the overall excellence award and it would be fantastic to hand it to a winner from the region.”

IMechE president Bill Banks said: ‘‘MX offers Worcestershire companies the opportunity to increase their knowledge about best practice and I am delighted that the Institution of Mechanical Engineers is working together with the MAS to honour those in the industry who maintain those high standards.

The application deadline is January 29 and companies can enter via the MX2009 website at mxawards.org.
