WYRE Forest District Council is aiming to reduce the size of its carbon footprint in 2010, after signing up to the global 10:10 campaign.
This campaign encourages individuals, businesses, schools and organisations to reduce their carbon emissions by 10 per cent in 2010.
So far more than 85,000 people and organisations have signed up, from Sara Cox and Sienna Miller to the London Underground and the new coalition government.
Conservative Marcus Hart, district council cabinet member for housing and environmental services, said: “Signing up to 10:10 shows that we are serious about cutting our carbon emissions.
“The improvements we are already making to achieve this will be good for the environment, helping to tackle climate change, and also make sense financially, by reducing our energy and fuel bills.”
According to the council, one of the actions already underway is the introduction of home-working for some staff, reducing the need for them to travel.
Other examples cited include the replacement of old fleet vehicles with “more fuel efficient models”, improvements to buildings such as Kidderminster Town Hall and IT improvements.
The council says it is also encouraging residents to sign up to 10:10. To sign up or find out more visit 1010uk.org

That was months ago, it has certainly taken some time to put the decision into practice.
