CHIQUITO has a new menu and one of the most exciting additions is the street food.

I had decided what I wanted long before I arrived at the restaurant for a recent visit, having spent far too long gazing at the menu online!

We were quickly seated and given some complimentary popcorn to enjoy while we looked at the menu.

You can pick up three of the mouth-watering tapas style dishes for £12.95 or six for £23.95 - I opted for the sweet chorizo croquettes, the Mexican frittata and halloumi bites, with a side of skin on fries and onion rings.

My partner was tempted by the street food but his love for pulled pork won the mental tug of war and he settled for the southern fried chicken and BBQ pulled pork.

Our drinks arrived soon after our order had been taken - a mocktail piña colada for me (the designated driver) and an alcohol filled strawberry daiquiri for my other half.

I've had more piña coladas than I care to remember and this was a fabulous substitute - not to sweet but it hit the spot, although there was a bit too much crushed ice in it for my liking.

My partners daiquiri also went down well (so much so he ordered another) and was fruity without being too overpowering.

When the food came I was glad I'd ordered my sides. The street food looked and smelled delicious but the portions were rather small.

The omelette slice, packed with potatoes, chorizo, sweetcorn, coriander, was served with a tomato salsa and the mix of flavours worked really well.

The three halloumi bites, coated in breadcrumbs were complimented perfectly with a sweet cranberry salsa and the two sweet potatoes croquettes were filled with chorizo, sweetcorn, onions and had sweet jalapeño jelly on the side.

They were packed full of flavour but I think they would be better to have as a starter rather than a main or to share over drinks if you're not feeling too peckish.

Moving on to dessert, I went for the Mexican Mess, which is the chain's take on Eton Mess - featuring churros, chocolate brownie, chocolate sauce, strawberry pieces, raspberry ripple ice cream and strawberry yoghurt topped with cream.

This desert came served in a cinnamon tortilla basket and looked as impressive as it tasted.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable meal and I’d definitely recommend a visit.
