THE brains behind Morph, Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep are bringing their brilliant animated world to Birmingham.

The new Aardman Animate It! Studio will open at Thinktank, Birmingham Science Museum on April 12.

Kids and grown-ups can make their very own ‘Shaun the Sheep’ style stop motion film in the latest attraction at the highly popular Kids City area at Thinktank.

The Animate It! Studio will give visitors of all ages the chance to become a real-life film director and make their very own stop motion film. But unlike Aardman’s clay creations such as Shaun the Sheep, in this studio, real people will be the model characters!

Kids City, an area of the museum where under sevens are encouraged to learn through role-play with their friends and family.

Visitors are invited to make a short film in the human-sized green screen studio, and once their film is completed, they can ‘broadcast’ it to a screen within the gallery.

Alongside the studio, there will be a number of hands-on play stations and Shaun the Sheep inspired fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

Lorna Williams, deputy exhibitions manager at Birmingham Museums Trust said: “We are really pleased to be working with Aardman Animations on this new Animate It! studio.

"Animation workshops are always really popular with our visitors, and we are sure that this new addition to Thinktank will be a blockbuster hit with families.”

Sean Clarke, head of rights and brand development at Aardman Animations said “It’s really exciting to be working with Thinktank on such an inspiring concept. "The Animate It! Studio offers a hub for very young children to play and experiment, which will hopefully instil a life-long love of animation.”

Birmingham Museums works constantly to extend and improve the museums offer for visitors, and this new studio is one of a number of the most recent developments.
