Roynon set for surgery on broken leg

DUDLEY Heathens skipper Adam Roynon is set for surgery today on his broken leg.

Roynon, who led the former Cradley club to within a point of the National League title last night, has also sustained a broken shoulder.

It means Heathens have ended the season with Roynon in hospital, Byron Bekker awaiting an appointment for surgery to repair his damaged knee ligaments and Tom Perry nursing a broken scaphoid and thumb.

Chairman Nigel Pearson said: “In many ways the injuries sustained by Adam are more gut-wrenching than losing the league by a point.

“Adam is a great guy, he has been a joy to deal with over the last couple of seasons and I am personally gutted for the lad.

“We signed Adam and put faith in him last November, before any of his other clubs signed him, that’s how much we wanted him back.

“It’s frightening to look at our injury list now and our sincere best wishes go to Adam, Byron and Tom.

“Thankfully our season is now over, but I will be telling Adam his priority is to get to our and of season awards night next week with the rest of the boys. They will all get a standing ovation after a fantastic effort throughout the season.”
