Mitch: We are more than just a big pack

NEIL Mitchell believes Stourbridge RFC are showing they are more than just a big pack.

The Stourton Park outfit made it eight wins from eight games to continue their serene progress in National League Two North with a 68-10 hammering of Otley last Saturday.

Director of rugby Mitchell judged it their finest performance so far and was particularly happy with the play from the backs.

He said: “I’ve heard quite a few comments that we are just a good set of forwards.

“I think we showed on Saturday we have the quality in the backs, from nine outwards.

“Tom Jarvis probably scored one of the best tries I have ever seen him score in a Stourbridge shirt.

“It was a comprehensive victory and what was nice was the overall performance.

“We avoided what we have done in previous games when we’ve taken our foot off the gas in the second half and the execution was superb.”

Stour travel to Hull this Saturday but will be without Richard Stott, who faces several weeks on the sidelines with an anterior cruciate injury sustained early in the game.

Robbie Hurrell is also a doubt for a game which Mitchell believes could be tough, despite the hosts’ lowly league position.

He said: “They beat Caldy a few weeks ago and though they are down the bottom, all of their games have been fairly close affairs.

“After last season I’m certainly not in any mood to look away and take my eye off the ball.

“There are certain immeasurables you sometimes can’t deal with but you can affect most of what comes by the preparation you do.

“With that in mind we regard every game as a potential banana skin.”
