Old Hales hit six of the best

OLD Halesonians hockey players pulled off a pleasing 6-2 success over Redditch to remain second in the West Midlands League Premier.

Josh Randhawa rattled home an early goal for the Halesonians, who then had to soak up considerable pressure which resulted with Paul Woodall pulling off a fabulous save to keep out a Redditch penalty corner.

Halesonians hit back to go 2-0 in front when Tom Bolton blasted home on the stroke of half time.

Captain Chris Whiley went onto put the issue beyond doubt when firing home a quickfire double before Tom Bulteel made the score 5-0 when firing home from a penalty corner after Doug Houghton had been tripped.

Redditch were pulled back a couple of late consolation goals before Paul Woodall rounded off matters with Halesonians’s sixth.

Halesonians host Stratford this weekend looking to close the gap on leaders Hampton-in-Arden Halesonains Ladies also lashed home six goals as they hammered Harborne’s fifth string 6-1.

Annie Smith struck a hat-trick while Bernie O’Grady bagged two more goals with Laura Bird making it six of the best.

Halesonians’ second men’s string suffered a 4-0 reverse at Aldridge and Walsall.

The third team walloped Wolverhampton 8-0 where Ash Greaves and Damian Shackleton both struck hat-tricks, while Chris Hardy and Connor Reid were also on target.
