HALESOWEN Swimming Club finished third in the first round of the National League at Redditch.

After 25 events the gala had settled into a pattern and despite a superb finish, Hales were unable to improve on third.

Individual wins were hard to come by and the team were made to wait until event 27 before India Hanke pulled off victory in the breaststroke. But this was followed by another win in very next event by James Cuthbert, who also won on breastroke.

Chloe Finch, Mark Laing and Ben Meakin took three wins in the freestyle and there were further great showings from the boys U11 medley relay team of Jack Simpson and Euan Vaughan-Hawkins and the girls open age squad of Eliza Bradley, Sian Carey, Sophie Page, Lilian Parsons and Rebecca Spoor.
