Jelf joy with his golden quartet
2:00pm Friday 2nd November 2012 in Sport
Blackheath Shukokai Karate Club captured a huge clutch of medals after competing in the Kimura Cup Championships.
They collected 29 medals in total, including 14 golds, making them one of the top clubs competing.
Peter Jelf in particular captured four golds — two of which he won in team competition.
The others came in the adult black belt kata and the men’s senior lightweight kumite where he beat fellow England team mate Michael Baker in the final.
Blackheath’s Audun Daniels won the men’s senior heavyweight kumite after beating fellow club member Robert Loftus.
There was a return to form for Jenny Loftus who gave a dazzling display to win the ladies senior kumite gold while David Maynard won the veterans black belt kata event.
Another all-Blackheath final saw Brandon Taylor win the cadets 10-11 year lightweight kumite when beating Kyle Jones, while sister Jordan Taylor lifted the peewee kata event.
Further individual golds came from Mia Daniels in the cadet 10 to 11 years heavyweight kumite while Kacy Campbell-Russell claimed a couple of titles, winning the 8 to 9 year lightweight kumite and cadet junior kata.
Some of the club members are already in training for the European Championships which take place in Finland next year.
