Trio fire Kings in Stafford hammering

THREE players hit braces as Kingswinford Hockey Club hammered Stafford 8-2.

Kings made the perfect start to the second-half of the campaign in a game which was only close during the first 10 minutes, when keeper Tim Sanders twice denied the visitors.

But after Ajaj Sandhu broke the deadlock from a penalty corner, the hosts never looked back.

Cole Hickman converted on the reverse to increase the lead before Sandhu made it 3-0 before the interval when he pounced on a rebound.

Things got even better moments into the second-half, when Billy Jawanda added his name to the scoresheet and though a defensive error allowed Stafford to pull one back, Kings quickly regained their composure when Bal Lally made it 5-1.

Jawanda grabbed his second and after Stafford managed another consolation, Mark Wilson netted a quick double to complete the rout.

The seconds coped with a disastrous start in their game at Ludlow but still lost 2-1.

With four players running late, Kings were forced to start the game with nine men and it took a colossal effort to keep out the hosts for the opening 15 minutes, before reinforcements arrived.

Jassi Bhadal fired home to put the visitors ahead but their joy was shortlived as slack defending allowed the hosts to equalise almost immediately and the hosts netted a late winner.
