Paytons make it a family affair in cyclo-cross

PROLIFIC Kingswinford cycling family the Paytons underlined their prowess at cyclo-cross by dominating this season’s West Midlands League helping Stourbridge Cycling Club proved the outstanding team in the process.

Hannah Payton followed up her excellent form in the National Trophy Series with a resounding win in the Senior Women’s competition.

Her 22-year-old brother Tom, made it a family double by winning the Senior Men’s title, while dad Kevin came second in the veterans 50 and over section, where Peter Harris of Team Pearce Cycles pipped him for the top prize.

Fellow Stourbrige CC rider Jayne Cheslin won the Women’s Veteran title, while Anthony Neave was runner-up in the Under-16 Youth competition.

Stourbridge club official Bryan Hedges also came second in the Men’s veterans Over-65 section after being edged out by Coventry Road Club’s David Miller.

Stourbridge CC now turn their attention to this year’s time-trial and road competition which gets underway in early April.

Last Sunday, Stourbridge CC staged a Reliability Trial over a testing 44 mile course starting and finishing at Dudley Kingswinford RFC which attracted a magnificent total of 118 riders.
