Super Lions run in six of the best
6:00pm Thursday 21st February 2013 in Sport
STOURBRIDGE Lions kept up the good feeling with a 34-0 demolition of Eccleshall.
The Lions have reached the Midland Vase final for the second year running and have been confirmed as hosts of the showpiece against Old Leamingtonians on March 16.
But there is still a chance of a double celebration as they battle for promotion from Midlands Three West (North) and this result did them no harm.
The visitors started quickly and spent the first 10 minutes in Lions territory.
But Stourbridge’s first break forced a line-out 15 metres from the Eccleshall line and a catch-and-drive move saw skipper Stuart Doolittle touching down.
The pattern was repeated five minutes later when flanker Dan Shrimpton, playing his first game in 12 months after returning from injury, went over.
Tom Dews then set up George Tildesley for the third score which increased the lead to 17-0 at the break.
Another three tries followed in the second-half.
A smart interchange involving Doolittle and Sam Strangward set up Cox for the fourth, before Tildesley added a fifth.
Stour went close again through Dews before a five-metre catch-and-drive brought the sixth and final try, with Sam Strangward emerging from the pile with the ball.
The Lions host Shrewsbury this Saturday.
