A RUTHLESS performance earned Dudley’s Tommy Ghent a first round knockout against Jozsef Gerebecz.

The Priory Park star, fighting for the first time in more than 12 months, floored his Hungarian opponent with a blistering right hand.

And though Gerebecz survived the eight count, Ghent was quickly back on the offensive to finish their light-middleweight clash at Birmingham’s HMV Institute.

It was also an excellent afternoon for Priory Park’s Ryan Corrigan, who won his debut professional bout on points over another Hungarian, Imre Nagy.

Corrigan enjoyed a confident finish to his lightweight fight but training partner Ghent was on top form from the opening bell.

His first meaningful punch had Gerebecz stumbling backward and aside from the odd single shot from his opponent, it was Ghent who dominated.

Even then, the punch which initially put the Hungarian down was something to admire, a straight right which Gerebecz didn’t see coming.

Ghent was straight back into it after the eight count and another flurry saw Gerebecz on the canvas again, this time referee Shaun Messer waving off the contest with ten seconds of the opening round remaining.

It was a fourth professional win for Ghent and the third by stoppage, with sturdier opponents now surely being sought as he continues his exciting progress.

Earlier, Corrigan showed flashes of his potential as he out-pointed Nagy.

The 19-year-old started brightly, landing early with a solid right as he comfortably took the opening round.

But the second and third rounds proved tougher. Corrigan was guilty of leaving himself open, allowing Nagy to connect with a couple of noticeable right hands.

But with the Hungarian growing in confidence, the Priory Park fight reasserted his dominance in the final round, landing a big left hand which left his opponent bloodied. Corrigan found the target with several more hefty shots to take the round and the fight by a score of 40-37.
