DUDLEY Kingswinford’s National Two North campaign ended in anti-climax as their final fixture against bottom club Huddersfield on Saturday was cancelled.

The Yorkshire side eventually called the game off on Thursday due to a shortage of players with DK awarded the win.

And it was even more of a let down for veteran forward Ben Connett as he was due to lead the side out on what would have been his last game for the club after almost two decades of service.

After two tough away days player-coach Jon Higgins expressed his disappointment.

He said: “It was a shame especially for Ben who would have led the team out but Huddersfield have been struggling for a few weeks now.

“There was quite a bit of dialogue between ourselves and them but unfortunately it had to be called off.

“It would have been nice for us to finish off our season at home and hopefully we would have finished it with a win.

“If it was a nice day we would have expected a decent crowd and with the pressure off after a couple of tough away trips we could have played some good rugby and put on a decent spectacle.

“But overall I’m satisfied with the season, I would have taken our position if you had offered it before the season started but as it happens we could have done a little better, but overall we have to be pleased.”
