Stour too strong for Wharfedale
5:06pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
STOURBRIDGE continued their impressive pre-season programme with a convincing 31-12 triumph over National League One side Wharfedale at Stourton Park.
Tries from Tom Jarvis, Nigel Mukarati, Seamus McKimm, Niles Dacres and Mark George did the trick with Jamie Hearn landing three conversions, Stour are set to face Coventry tonight (7pm), while director of rugby Neil Mitchell is also trying to arrange a last minute fixture with Championship side Rotherham Titans, which would take place on August 31.
Originally, the Stourton Park men were due to face Sutton Coldfield, but the National Three Midlands side have pulled out.
Mitchell said: “I’m still negotiating with Rotherham at the moment. “If the game does go ahead, it will probably take place in Sheffield.
“Otherwise, I’ll try and arrange a condition fixture, even if it’s against our own Lions side as we have to do something the week before our league season starts against Harrogate on September 7.”
Mitchell also confirmed there would be no further additions to his 27 strong squad.
He added: “The pack is now full. I’m very happy with what I’ve got.
“Ironically, we played Wharfedale this time last season and lost 33-12, so it very pleasing to reverse the scoreline.”
